Backboard is building foundational AI infrastructure. We are hiring a graphic designer to own our visual direction across web, print, and product-facing surfaces. This is an individual contributor role with meaningful autonomy. You will operate with creative authority, shaping how the brand shows up in market, while remaining hands-on in execution.

As the company grows, this role can expand into team ownership, but the immediate expectation is excellence as a practitioner.

What you will do

• Own Backboard’s visual identity across website, marketing pages, documentation, pitch decks, print assets, and event materials

• Design layout systems and reusable patterns rather than one-off assets

• Partner with product and engineering on UI and interface concepts when needed

• Translate complex, technical ideas into clear, confident visual communication

• Establish and evolve lightweight brand and layout guidelines

• Work quickly and independently in a startup environment with minimal process

What we are looking for

• 5+ years experience in graphic design, brand, or visual design roles

• A strong portfolio showing taste, layout discipline, and consistency across mediums

• Comfort operating as an individual contributor with high ownership

• Strong typography, hierarchy, and composition skills

• Ability to balance creative intuition with practical constraints

• Experience with early-stage startups or fast-moving teams is a strong advantage

• Exposure to product or UI design is a plus, not a requirement

This role starts as a senior individual contributor. As Backboard scales, there is an opportunity to take on broader creative ownership, including mentoring or leading additional designers, if that aligns with your goals and performance.
